Sometimes you just need to spend a weekend relaxing and unwinding. That’s true for people with disabilities and their caretakers alike! Chris K. has been coming to the Respite Care Home to do just that.

Chris is happy living with his dad, brother, and his golden retriever, but enjoys the time he gets to take a break away from his family every now and then. It’s his chance to take time out from his family’s busy schedules. When he comes to stay at the Respite Care Home, he likes to settle in for a few days at a time. On the first night, he says he likes to just take a shower and go to bed. “I just like to take it easy and get away from all the stress in my life,” he said.

When his family first visited the Respite Care Home, Chris says he knew he wanted to come back for a stay right away. “We took a tour around this place and I just really fell in love with this place,” he said.

Although the Respite Care Home is set up with two beds in each room, Chris always requests his own room when possible. He said that gives him a chance to get a good night’s sleep without hearing anybody snoring.  When he wakes up, Chris gets his day started with a cup of coffee. He socializes with the staff and other guests staying at the Respite Care Home and says he mostly tries to relax. When he’s preparing for a stay, he focuses on packing clothes and toiletries, knowing the Respite Care Home is already stocked with games and movies. When their schedules line up with his visits, he likes to watch the Blues and Cardinals play on TV in the Respite Care Home’s living room, although he says they haven’t been looking too good lately.

While he stays at the Respite Care Home, Chris says his brother likes to go out to eat. His dad sometimes goes on trips. “I’ve been coming here quite a while because my dad goes out of town,” he said. During his last stay, Chris said his dad was on a vacation in California. He usually calls and tells Chris what he’s up to and shows pictures of his trips when he returns.

Chris stays at the Respite Care Home to give everyone in the family, including himself, a chance to relax and recharge.
