When Alyssa joined the team at Hampton Inn in September 2024, she started a journey of growth, confidence, and independence. Through Community Living’s Employment Services, Alyssa has found meaningful work and taken exciting steps toward her future.
Alyssa first connected with Community Living through the Adult Recreation program, where she later learned about Employment Services and the Summer Work Experience program. With encouragement from her Vocational Case Manager, Jessica, she began working at Hampton Inn as a houseman. Her daily tasks include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and keeping the hotel’s common areas welcoming and clean. Over time, she’s also helped with room turnover, deep cleaning, and other maintenance projects.
“I’ve learned how to do things more efficiently,” Alyssa shared. “At first it took me 30 minutes to vacuum and now it only takes 15. I’ve found better ways to mop, collect trash, and keep things running smoothly. I’ve also built social skills and made friends here.”
Alyssa says the job has changed her life in many ways. It has given her financial independence, inspired her to get her driver’s license and even motivated her to buy her own car. “The fact that I could do this at all, that I can be something and do something in the world that helps others, that’s what I’m most proud of,” she said.

Her growth has been noticed by both her coworkers and the Employment Services team. Jessica has been inspired watching Alyssa build confidence:
“Alyssa started from the ground up in her career. She was hired as a houseman doing cleaning duties in the lobby and common areas. Since then, she’s grown into assisting with maintenance tasks like unclogging drains, deep cleaning rooms, and changing light bulbs. Management has reported that she’s on her way to becoming a maintenance engineer!”
Jessica also shared how much Alyssa has impacted her personally:
“I feel that Alyssa has taught me as much as I have guided her. I see so much of myself in her. She has unintentionally guided me to be more comfortable in who I am as a person.”
The team at Hampton Inn Wentzville is equally proud to have Alyssa on staff. Amanda Prouhet, General Manager, shared:
“Alyssa started here through the summer work program. She has grown so much personally and professionally in her time here. She is always a joy to have around. She is a very hard worker and eager to learn.”
Alyssa’s story is a powerful reminder of the difference meaningful employment can make. With support, opportunity, and her own determination, she has built not only job skills but also confidence, independence, and connections.
“There’s this saying- you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. If you don’t try, how are you going to know if you’re good at anything?” – Alyssa
