Coming Together to SOAR

Supporters of Community Living came out to the 3rd Annual Trivia Night to help raise money to benefit the SOAR (Social Opportunities and Recreation) program, providing year-round enrichment and social activities for teens with developmental disabilities enrolled in middle or high school.

The Trivia Night was hosted by the “BeCAUSE We Care” Team — Barbara and Brooke Goode, Beth Ching, Chelsea McClafferty, Christine Jaeger, Kelly Rector and Nancy Emge. The hosts have all been touched in one way or another by a person with a disability and have all become actively involved with Community Living. They all believe, “With the help of the community, we strongly feel that we can continue to make a difference for all those with disabilities.”

Two donations were presented on this night – $400 from the Professional Firefighters of the O’Fallon Fire Protection District and $4,000 from Northstar Insurance Advisors. Barb Griffith, President and CEO of Community Living, was presented with a $4,000 check from Ramiz Hakim, owner and cofounder of Northstar Insurance Advisors. “I was overwhelmed, literally speechless, by the generosity of the Northstar Insurance Advisors team,” Barb said. “They have participated in this event before, but went above and beyond this year when they presented us with this large cash donation. All of us at Community Living can’t thank them enough.”

With the support of our community, the night raised over $20,000! “On behalf of our families, friends, neighbors, students and all others that are touched by someone with a disability, we thank you for your support,” Beth said. “Together we can and will make a difference.”
